Style Diary | Picnic Perfect

I love picnics. I have so many happy childhood memories of summers spent picnicking with my family in the park or on the beach. One of the great things about them is that anything summery goes when it comes to the dress code but for me, gingham and picnics go hand in hand.

So, when I was invited to my friend’s birthday picnic in Richmond Park last weekend I was on the lookout for the perfect gingham piece to wear. I didn’t exactly have to look far. If there’s one print that’s dominating the high street this summer, it’s gingham!

I soon spotted these monochrome gingham ruffle waist trousers in Topshop. High-waisted with a loose, tailored fit and turn up hems, they’re super comfy whilst creating a stylish, elegant silhouette. Paired with a simple white crop top, statement earrings and sunglasses, they’re ideal for wearing to a picnic as you can sit comfortably without flashing anyone!

This is the outfit I was planning to wear on Saturday but it was so bloomin’ hot this weekend, I would’ve melted in trousers, so my sister came to the rescue and let me borrow her pretty summer dress from Mango, which you can see on my Instagram. As it was, I overheated putting the outfit on to photograph! Nevertheless, I’m sure I will get lots of use out of these trousers this summer and there will be plenty more picnics to wear them to, as long as it’s not too hot!
