Last Sunday my parents ventured to the ‘dark side’ to see Chloe and I. As it was persistently pouring with rain, we took the opportunity to start our Christmas shopping at Spitalfields indoor market and the Renegade Craft Fair.
Started up in the USA, the Renegade Craft Fair came to London in 2011 and has returned annually since. The fair is held in the fantastic bright space of the Old Truman Brewery and showcases 100 of the best indie makers and designers in the UK.
Being a designer and independent retailer herself, my mum has always wanted to visit the Renegade Craft Fair and it was great to see so many unique designers and products all under one roof. If you hadn’t noticed already, I’m a self-confessed cat lover so it was unsurprising that I Like Cats caught my eye.
I Like Cats designs gifts for the modern cat lover including greetings cards, accessories and home ware, all adorned with adorable feline friends. There were so many great gift ideas but I couldn’t help seeing things for myself, like the hand knitted Fair Isle necklaces from Louise Dawson Design.
The illustrated ‘I love you to the moon and back’ plate by Oh No Rachio! makes a lovely Christmas present idea for a loved one, whilst the pretty little magnets with pressed natural flowers from Little Wren make great stocking fillers.
It was really inspiring to see so many artisan makers and it made me want to make/knit/design something (watch this space!). I’m a strong believer in supporting small businesses and I urge you to shop independent this Christmas for unique and lovingly designed presents.
