Recipe | Love Heart Jam Tarts

These little love heart jam tarts are perfect if you’re looking for something to bake this Valentine’s Day.

Whether as a sweet treat for yourself or lovingly made gift for your valentine, they are so simple to bake. I actually cheated this time and used ready-made pastry, which made them even easier, but here’s the recipe for making them from scratch.

Ingredients:

  • Blackcurrant jam

  • Strawberry jam

  • 85g unsalted butter

  • 170g self-raising flour

Method:

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 200ºC. Grease a cupcake tray.

  2. To make the pastry rub together the butter and the flour until they look like fine breadcrumbs. Gradually add water a teaspoon at a time, stirring until it comes together as a dough.

  3. Flour a surface and roll out to about 0.5cm thick. Cut out circles using a pastry cutter and place them into the cupcake tray, making sure they’re central before pressing them gently to the bottoms and sides.

  4. Fill each with a teaspoon of jam; half of the cases with strawberry and half with blackcurrant. Cut out little hearts using a cutter and place them on top of the jam.

  5. Put the tarts in the oven for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
